Cushman & Wakefield and Michael Joyce win two major Commercial Brokers Association (CBA) Awards

Cushman & Wakefield announced Michael Joyce was presented with the 2017 McCall Leadership Award by the Commercial Brokers Association (CBA) during its annual Achievement Awards dinner at the InterContinental Boston. The McCall Leadership Award is the highest honor bestowed upon a commercial real estate broker in Greater Boston, acknowledging superior performance during not only the previous year, but throughout one’s career.

A major force in the downtown Boston market over the past several decades, Joyce has been involved in numerous major transactions that have earned him widespread respect among tenants, landlords and peers within the local commercial real estate community. In 2017, while a partner at Transwestern RBJ, he worked on the Boston Consulting Group’s planned move later this year to the new Pier Four development in the Seaport; Santander Bank’s renewal of 160,000 square feet of space at 75 State Street; and the Boston Celtics’ planned move later this year into new practice facilities at Boston Landing.  Joyce joined Cushman & Wakefield as vice chairman in January.

In addition to the McCall Leadership Award, Cushman & Wakefield’s Joe Fallon, Ted Lyon and Connor Barnes, along with Bob Richards, were awarded the Life Science Deal of the Year Award.

Cushman & Wakefield facilitated the Shire Human Genetic Therapies sublease in Cambridge, MA. The acquisition of ARIAD Pharmaceuticals by Takeda Pharmaceuticals in February 2017 resulted in space being freed up at ARIAD’s former headquarters at 125 Binney Street in Cambridge. Cushman & Wakefield, representing Takeda, reached out to life-science firms interested in subleasing the space, leading to Shire Human Genetic Therapies’ 12-year, 220,000-square-foot sublease. The lease significantly expands the company’s presence in the region’s biotech center. 125 Binney Street is adjacent to Shire’s locations at 650 East Kendall and 500 Kendall, providing the company with a tremendous campus setting of more than 750,000 square feet of laboratory and office space in Kendall Square.
